The AFOB workshop focuses on the development of biotechnological products for AGP-free animal production. AGP means antibiotic growth promoters. Reducing the use of antibiotics in animal production became an important objective for the European Union in the late 1990s. The most effective biotechnological products as substitutes of antibiotics are probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics. The market for this kind of feed additives alternative to AGP continues to grow. Biotechnology can help develop production of alternatives to antibiotics. To promote the academic-industrial collaboration, the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB) have established links with Asian bioindustrial sectors and organized activities for promoting the development of Asian Bioeonomy. This workshop is co-organized by AFOB and the Thai Society for Biotechnology (TSB) and is an activity in the bioeconomy category.
